Berry Springs is a true blue outback suburb, located in the rural outskirts of Darwin, 58.5 kilometres (36.4 mi) from the CBD. This little suburb has its own charms, but it’s also an excellent accommodation base for those hoping to embark on tours to the beautiful Litchfield National Park, Berry Springs Nature Park, the Territory Wildlife Park and other nearby wilderness areas.

Berry Springs is a great spot to stay for those hoping to take advantage of the city amenities, but who don’t want to endure the hustle and bustle of the city itself. Everything from caravan parks to classy resort-style accommodation can be found in or near town, allowing visitors to take advantage of the area’s beautiful natural environment and the Berry Creek catchment. The suburb is set in amazing tropical oasis surroundings, with native trees lining streets, billabongs and rivers (complete with crocodiles lazing in the sun) and plenty of hidden gems along the way. The locals are friendly and visitors to the area always compliment the food available at almost every venue.

The Berry Springs Nature Park is the areas drawcard, with a number of scenic walking tracks and crystal clear springs where you can cool off after a hot day, snorkel to see the native aquatic life and relax with a picnic on the beautiful shaded banks. An interpretive display teaches you about the area’s history and wildlife, with photos and diagrams, while the drinking water supplies, barbeque facilities, kiosk, toilets and a Ranger Station ensures that you’ll be comfortable and safe. A plethora of bird species can be spotted within the Park, with species from two different habitat zones (forest and wetland) mingling. This sanctuary in the desert is the perfect location for those looking for a true taste of the Aussie outback!
